The Guardia Civil has arrested two people in Tenerife, one of whom is 16 years old, for calling for violent acts; they are believed to be the leaders of the ‚Blocus‘ movement on the island.
The investigation, carried out by specialist units of the Guardia Civil, began when a high level of activity was detected on digital instant messaging channels and social media platforms.
According to sources within the Armed Forces, the detainees had «a sophisticated and carefully planned modus operandi», which included encrypted communication tools to evade police surveillance.
Blockade auf Tenerife: Gruppen circulierten konkrete Pläne für Sabotage
Through these tools, they spread calls for sabotage within closed groups, sharing maps of target areas and precise instructions on how to act in a coordinated manner to overwhelm the police and security forces and carry out acts of vandalism and looting.
Once access had been gained to these communication groups, the administrators were responsible for issuing the relevant instructions, inciting direct action, the burning of street furniture to hinder police operations, methods of attacking the police and security forces, and the carrying out of simultaneous raids on large retail outlets, according to the Guardia Civil.
Guardia Civil identifies suspected Blocus leaders
Following a series of investigations, the two leaders and main organisers of the ‚Blocus‘ movement in Tenerife have been fully identified.
The Guardia Civil emphasises that this has made it possible to arrest the ringleaders and «neutralise the channels through which the message was being spread before the protest could take to the streets».
The Public Prosecutor's Office is coordinating proceedings against those arrested
The operation was coordinated by the Cybercrime Unit of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Provincial Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The detainees will be brought before the competent judge and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, so that any precautionary measures deemed appropriate may be taken.
