The grand carnival parade took place in Tenerife on Tuesday, watched by thousands of visitors. Flanked by onlookers, most of whom were in fancy dress, the parade wound its way through the streets of the capital.
Led by the Carnival Queen, the procession made its way to the grand Carnival fair at the harbour of Santa Cruz. In her wake, the Reina was followed by dozens of samba groups comprising hundreds of dancers and musicians, whose instruments made the streets tremble.

Once they arrived at the fairground, the revellers finally shed their elaborate costumes and set off to celebrate together.
Carnival on Tenerife doesn’t really get going until Ash Wednesday
However, unlike in Germany, the carnival season does not end with the ‚burial of the sardine‘ on Ash Wednesday. In Santa Cruz, the street carnival then continues right through to the weekend. In Puerto de la Cruz, the Carnival is only just getting into full swing.
