The flight time to Tenerife from Germany is around 4.5 hours. When booking, you must take the time difference into account. As Western European Time (WET) applies in the Canary Islands, your watch must be set back by one hour compared to German time. Despite a net flight time of around 4.5 hours, passengers therefore theoretically step off the plane after just 3.5 hours, according to their watches. The return flight therefore theoretically takes 5.5 hours, as the clock is set forward by one hour again during the flight.
Two airports on Tenerife
Flights to Tenerife land either in the south or the north. The Canary Island has the Reina Sofia Airport in the south and the Los Rodeos Airport in the north. Since its opening by Queen Sofia, the new airport in the south has been the hub of the island’s air traffic. Around five million holidaymakers pass through it every year. But the north is catching up. A new law on night flights is intended to make the smaller of the two airports a little more competitive again.
As they approach Tenerife, holidaymakers are immediately presented with the two faces of the ‚Island of Eternal Spring‘. Whilst the flight from the north reveals the island’s green side, the landscape becomes increasingly rocky as one heads south. This sun-drenched part of the island resembles a lunar landscape, where, from the air, only the hotel complexes and golf courses stand out against the volcanic rock.
