One of Tenerife’s oldest walking trails is situated in the north of the island, near the capital, Santa Cruz. The walk takes you from Cruz del Carmen to Llano de los Viejos. The trail, which is around 1.5 kilometres long, is suitable for beginners.
The walking trail
The starting point is in the municipality of La Laguna. You can park your car at the Cruz del Carmen rest area. The walk begins near the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. The start of the trail is signposted from there.
The first section of the footpath leads to the Llano de los Loros clearing. On the way there, you’ll find yourself in a former riverbed. The stream has long since dried up. What remained was eventually converted into today’s footpath.
On either side of the path, there are cliffs up to two metres high, set amidst the laurel forest of the Anaga Mountains on Tenerife. Once you reach the clearing, you can take a short breather and enjoy the stunning view across the coast to the Atlantic Ocean.
Finally, the route continues towards the main road. You cross the TF-12 to follow a dirt track on the other side of the road. This then takes you all the way to Llano de los Viejos.
