Tickets for the various Carnival events on Tenerife are in short supply. For the first time this year, advance ticket sales were also due to take place via an online platform. However, the rush was so great that the servers crashed. We’ll tell you here how you can still get hold of tickets.
For the website entrees.es, this was already its second chance to make a name for itself, at least across the Canary Islands. However, just as with the advance ticket sales for the Aerosmith farewell concert in Santa Cruz last summer, the operators were once again caught unprepared for the rush during the Tenerife Carnival.
Once it became known that all manner of carnival tickets would be available via the platform for the first time, the servers crashed again. This happens because every single request has to be processed and responded to by the server. If there are too many concurrent requests, they build up and overload the processors and RAM. If this continues unabated, the website eventually crashes completely. Various technologies can prevent this, but these are generally costly and have not yet been utilised sufficiently on the ticketing portal.
The Carnival Committee on Tenerife responded to this situation with its usual pragmatism. The move towards new media was swiftly reversed. Tickets are now, as in previous years, available exclusively from physical ticket outlets.
Anyone wishing to attend one of the carnival events in Tenerife in person will have the opportunity to buy tickets at the exhibition centre in Santa Cruz from Friday 27 January. The ticket offices are open on weekdays from 10 am to 1 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm. Advance ticket sales run until 22 February.
Update: It is now possible to buy tickets online again. The festival committee has since opted for a different platform, which is said to be more reliable. Tickets will be available to buy from 11.00 am on Thursday at Ticketea.
