Weather in Jandía on Fuerteventura
Jandía lies like a peninsula at the southern tip of Fuerteventura. Together with Morro Jable, the village forms this tip of the island. The landscape is barren, the sky mostly blue: as a relatively flat island, Fuerteventura has no mountains that could hold back the trade wind clouds. Consequently, there is little humidity. Jandía also lies on the leeward side of the island.
The peninsula has two very different sides, which is more important to bear in mind when planning a holiday than simply looking at the temperature. This is because in the south and east, where Morro Jable and Playa del Matorral are situated, the water is calm and shallow. The western side, towards Cofete, is completely exposed to the Atlantic. The wave conditions listed in the table above, however, apply to the sheltered side.
A day on Jandía
The peninsula is larger than it might appear on a map. Morro Jable in the south boasts a harbour, a promenade and Playa del Matorral. There is also the lighthouse and the nearby salt marsh. The waters in the region are shallow and mostly calm. Butihondo and Esmeralda lie further east. Cofete, on the western side, is undeveloped and accessible only via a gravel track. The beach is directly exposed to the Atlantic.
The figures given here apply to the sheltered south-facing side. Anyone planning a trip to Cofete should bear in mind not only the swell but, above all, the wind, which blows all year round on Fuerteventura and usually makes the temperature feel considerably cooler.
There are no long-term climate data available, as there is no structured data collection with a complete time series for the south of Fuerteventura. The daily figures shown above, however, come from the local forecast station and are accurate and updated in real time.
