Life-Sized Nativity Scene Fills La Orotava’s Town Hall Square

Around 320 individual pieces spread across 900 square metres blend the biblical story with Canarian scenes. The square stays open around the clock until 6 January, and admission is free.

Hundreds of visitors come to see the nativity scene in La Orotava every day. The town hall forecourt, which covers around 900 square metres, offers plenty of space for the approximately 320 individual pieces. This rather unusual nativity scene is arranged around the square, allowing visitors to walk through it piece by piece.

The highlights – at least from the perspective of the younger visitors – are a life-size camel and some little goslings. Older onlookers quickly fall in love with the many details of this nativity scene.

Every year in La Orotava, a slightly different version of the biblical and Canary Islands Christmas nativity scenes is created. Traditionally, these can be viewed until 6 January. The town hall square is open 24 hours a day.
