Yellow alert: What the Canary Islands can expect on Tuesday

For El Hierro, Tenerife and Gran Canaria the Spanish weather agency has Aemet eine gelbe Regenwarnung has been issued. It is in force on Tuesday between 12 noon and midnight.

According to the meteorological service, up to 20 millimetres of rain can fall in Gran Canaria within an hour. Up to 40 millimetres are expected there over a twelve-hour period.

On Gran Canaria, the higher and mid-altitude areas in the north and east are particularly affected. The Aemet also considers isolated thunderstorms to be possible.

Tenerife and El Hierro: Weather service warns of heavy rain

The agency is also forecasting up to 20 millimetres of rain within an hour for Tenerife and El Hierro. There, the warning mainly concerns mid-altitude areas and higher-lying regions in the north, north-east and south.

Isolated thunderstorms may also affect Tenerife and El Hierro. The Aemet estimates the probability of a warning being issued at between 40 and 70 per cent. Particularly along the coast, thunderstorms at higher altitudes may cause flash floods. Special caution is therefore advised, particularly near ravines.
