From Thursday, water charges in Santa Cruz will rise by 2.2 per cent. At the same time, the Canary Islands are supporting local egg producers.

The fare adjustment was based on a resolution passed by the local government assembly on 13 April, of which the municipal council was informed on 29 May. On 4 June, the Santa Cruz City Council submitted the application, which was unanimously approved by the Canary Islands Pricing Commission on 2 October. The City Council also submitted the audit report on the 2025 annual accounts of the water supplier EMMASA.

The new prices for the public water supply in Santa Cruz are being implemented by the Deputy Ministry of Industry, Trade and Consumer Protection. The regulation has been published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands.

Canary Islands: Egg producers to receive €320,477 in funding

For the 2026 campaign, the Ministry of Agriculture is inviting applications for grants aimed at producers, producer groups and producer organisations. Chicken eggs produced and marketed in the Canary Islands will receive a subsidy of 0.08 euros per dozen. Applications may be submitted electronically between 15 and 31 January 2027. According to the call for applications in the Official Journal of the Canary Islands, 320,477 euros has been made available for egg production in the Canary Islands.

The funds come from the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund and are intended to offset the additional costs arising from the Canary Islands‘ peripheral location. Young farmers eligible for support receive an additional ten per cent, provided they have received a setting-up grant in the current marketing year or in one of the four previous marketing years and retain their status.
