Buses, Transport & Getting Around on Tenerife

Getting around Tenerife by bus for around 10 euros or less

TITSA and private operators run from the huge station at the southern airport to almost every corner of the island, with express services reaching Puerto de la Cruz in about an hour. A TenMas card cuts fares further.

The locals call it the bus. However, „Autobus“ is also understood everywhere on the island. A huge coach station awaits tourists as soon as they arrive at the South Airport.

Both private companies and the public bus operator „TITSA“ (Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife SA) operate numerous bus routes and services along a wide stretch of the island, enabling tourists and locals alike to travel to all parts of the island.

TITSA’s converted coaches offer ample storage space for suitcases and bags beneath the passenger compartment. As well as the ‚regular‘ scheduled services, express buses also operate from the airport. For example, with just one stop at North Airport, they take you to Puerto de la Cruz in around an hour, and from there on to the island’s capital, Santa Cruz. There, in turn, is one of the island’s largest bus stations, from where services run to further destinations all around the island.

Travelling around the whole island by bus

The longest bus journey, for example from Santa Cruz in the north-east to Playa de las Américas in the south, costs around ten euros. Given the long distance, this is extremely good value compared with German public transport fares. With a „TenMas“ ticket (formerly „Bonobus“), the already affordable fares are reduced even further.

The island’s only tram service operates in Santa Cruz. The service runs every thirty minutes between the harbour and La Laguna from 6 am until midnight. There is no last service on public holidays or at weekends.
