Holidays in Tenerife

North or south, hotel or apartment, bus or hire car on Tenerife

The southern resorts promise more sunshine and plusher hotels, while the trade wind clouds around Puerto de la Cruz bring greener scenery. Transport, flight timing and accommodation all follow from that choice.

Before your holiday in Tenerife, there are a few things to sort out. As well as the usual preparations – which you’ll find in our „Checklist for your Tenerife holiday“ – you should also give some thought to the following points:

Holidays on Tenerife: North or South?

The south of Tenerife offers guaranteed sunshine and, on the whole, higher-quality accommodation. However, the landscape suffers from the scorching sun. In the north, on the other hand, the trade wind clouds ensure a more pleasant climate.

Less direct sunlight and the more humid mountain air allow a wide variety of plants to thrive. Anyone who wants to get out and about a lot is therefore better off in the north, around Puerto de la Cruz. On the other hand, those looking for a classic pool or beach holiday should head south, as there are more sunny days there.

Hotel or holiday flat on Tenerife?

Tenerife offers hotels in every category. Whilst the south in particular is lined with one luxury hotel after another, the north also has plenty of more down-to-earth accommodation. Ultimately, it shouldn’t be the number of stars that determines which part of Tenerife you choose. Instead, you should focus on what you want to experience and do on holiday (see below).

Holiday flats and apartments on Tenerife offer a good alternative to traditional hotels. These accommodation options are usually very affordable. Advantage: You’re not tied to any set times and can enjoy good, affordable meals in Tenerife’s mostly excellent restaurants. Disadvantage: You have to keep the place tidy yourself – which, of course, can be a bit of a nuisance whilst on holiday.

Cheap flights to Tenerife

Flights are generally much cheaper outside the peak holiday seasons. If you want to travel on a budget, you should choose your travel dates wisely and check with the usual low-cost airlines. The relevant price comparison websites can help you with your search.

Exploring Tenerife by bus

The bus network on Tenerife is very well developed. The bus – known locally as a ‚bus‘ – takes you to even the most remote corners of the island at very low cost. A car hire, on the other hand, offers considerably more freedom and comfort.

Book a hire car in Tenerife

Hiring a car on the island is affordable, and the petrol price on Tenerife is comparatively low. It’s worth weighing up your options: beach holidaymakers are best off taking the bus, whilst those on an adventure holiday should consider hiring a small car.

A beach holiday or an adventure holiday on Tenerife?

Tenerife offers both – and you don’t necessarily have to decide in advance. Day trips are available from anywhere on the island to take you to the places you want to see. Whether you’d like to play golf or visit Europe’s longest volcanic cave. From Europe’s largest water park to the fantastic Loro Parque, there’s plenty to choose from. Why not have a look here, for example.
