El Socorro is particularly popular with surfers. The beach at Los Realejos in the north of Tenerife offers ideal conditions and is therefore often used for training under competition conditions. But the beach isn’t just a great spot for surfers: visitors to Playa El Socorro can now also surf the internet for free!
The swell and currents mean that Socorro Beach is a place where common sense and caution are particularly important. The black sand beach is less suitable for a relaxing family holiday. Young people who consider themselves to be strong and careful swimmers are more likely to be the target audience.
The fact that the beach is particularly aimed at a younger crowd is also confirmed by the latest marketing coup from the municipality of Los Realejos: Playa Socorro was the first beach on the island to be equipped with free Wi-Fi. However, for legal reasons, the free internet connection must be activated. To do this, visitors can obtain a voucher from the town hall or directly from the beach kiosk.
Webcam at Socorro Beach on Tenerife
As part of the upgrades for free internet access, a webcam has also been installed. This allows surfers to be watched as they perform their tricks. What’s more, it means there’s no longer any unpleasant surprises when looking for a spot. You can now check from the comfort of your own computer whether the beach is overcrowded.
But technology aside, Playa El Socorro is, above all, a beautifully situated, gently curving beach of black volcanic sand. At the beach kiosk, visitors can enjoy not only internet access but also all sorts of refreshments and treats, making it easy to spend a whole day at the beach in Los Realejos.
Socorro Beach can be reached via the C-820 road. From Los Realejos, visitors can follow the signposts. The road branches off towards the beach near the Mirador de San Pedro. There is a sufficiently large car park.
Playa El Socorro has gained dubious notoriety in recent times due to repeated rockfalls and landslide warnings. You can read more about this here.
