A very strong Calima caused air pollution levels in Tenerife to reach 110 micrograms of PM10 per cubic metre on Monday. According to the Calima forecast, air quality is therefore very poor.
The Copernicus CAMS model and measurements from the European Environment Agency form the basis of the forecast. For El Hierro, 82 micrograms of PM10 particulate matter are expected; for La Gomera 76, and for Gran Canaria and La Palma 57 micrograms per cubic metre each. Air quality is poor on these Canary Islands.
The Calima following the rain warning in the Canary Islands was situated over Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura on Thursday. On Friday, it moved towards Tenerife and La Gomera.
