The Universities of La Laguna (ULL) and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) have reached a preliminary agreement with the Canary Islands Government on a multi-annual funding scheme for the two public academic institutions covering 2027 to 2030.

This was announced by the rectors, Francisco García (ULL) and Lluís Serra (ULPGC), and the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, at the ceremony marking the establishment of the Conference of Social Councils of the two universities.

In subsequent statements to the media, Francisco García revealed that the agreement guarantees basic funding for the running of the two public universities and provides for an equalisation fund to make up for some of the shortfall in previous years‘ budgets.
