Beaches in Tenerife

Where to swim without clothes on Tenerife’s beaches

Four coves and sandy stretches on the island have long been established for naturists, from the secluded Playa de los Patos in the north to Playa la Tejita near El Medano. Each comes with its own quirks, be it wind, early shade or a mixed crowd.

Nudism enthusiasts will be in their element in Tenerife. The culture of nudism has long since taken hold in the Canary Islands. Over the years, not only have increasing numbers of tourists been recorded in Tenerife and the neighbouring islands, but their preferences have also been studied. Nude bathing in Tenerife has therefore long been socially acceptable, at least in designated areas.

All the information on nude bathing on Tenerife

Germans are world champions when it comes to nude bathing. To cater for this preference for naturism in Tenerife too, several beach areas have been designated as naturist zones over the years. Here are the most popular naturistbeaches in Tenerife:

Playa de los Patos

Playa de los Patos is a small cove near Playa Bollullo in the north of Tenerife (you can find more information about the beach here). The beach attracts a mixed crowd. The somewhat secluded cove of Playa de los Patos, on the other hand, is exclusively a nudist beach. It can be reached via Puerto de la Cruz. The RIU Garoe Hotel is situated in the La Paz district. From there, a well-signposted path leads to Playa Bollullo. Continue along this path until you see a high concrete staircase on the left-hand side leading down the cliff. In the middle of the staircase, a small path leads to the nudist area at Playa de los Patos. You should allow about 30 minutes for the walk to Playa Bollullo from the hotel. You can reach Playa de los Patos in about 40 minutes.

Playa la Tejita

This beach is considered to be the longest natural sandy beach on Tenerife. It lies at the foot of Montaña Roja, to the west of El Médano. A small section of the beach is designated for naturists. A major drawback of this beach is the wind. It’s no coincidence that Tenerife’s World Surfing Championships are held here. Otherwise, however, the beach comes highly recommended. Shallow water and fine sand make a day at the beach a real treat.

Playa las Gaviotas

Playa de las Gaviotas is also a very popular nudist beach. One of its advantages is that there is a small kiosk here. A drawback, however, is the beach’s location. Depending on the time of year, it can be in the shade as early as the early afternoon. The nudist beach can be reached via the fishing village of San Andrés.

Playa la Caleta

Playa Caleta has been a nudist beach from the very beginning. Whilst nudists used to have the beach to themselves, it is now frequented by a mixed crowd. As a result, true nudist enthusiasts are increasingly steering clear of this beach. Nevertheless, it is very beautiful. Anyone who doesn’t mind the ‚clothed bathers‘ will find plenty to enjoy here.
