The Secretary-General of CC, Fernando Clavijo, condemns «the climate of pre-civil-war tension» which, in his view, is being fuelled in Spain by political interests, a situation he has contrasted with the Canarian way of doing politics, and asks the Virgin of El Pino to ensure that whoever it may be falls two votes short of securing the investiture after 29 November.
He made this clear on Tuesday at a forum organised by ‚Canarias 7‘ ahead of the forthcoming election, in which CC will stand alongside Primero Canarias with the aim of expanding its presence in the Spanish Parliament to safeguard the rights of the Canarian community as a territory distinct from the rest of those that make up the Spanish State.
Clavijo has insisted that this Canarian nationalist coalition will not support a government in which Vox is involved, and has questioned what would become of the defence of the REF if Santiago Abascal’s party were to hold the Economy portfolio, or what would happen to the Canary Islands if this party were to take charge of the Migration portfolio.
Canary Islands election: Sosa warns against Vox and criticises the PP
The lead candidate for this coalition in the general election for Las Palmas, Teodoro Sosa, has emphasised the need to «vote Canarian» on 29 November to stop parties such as Vox, which believes neither in the system of autonomous regions nor in self-government, and which is committing «fraud» by including people from León or Madrid on its Senate lists for the Canary Islands alongside the PP, people «who do not know where La Culata de Tejeda is».
At the same time, the mayor of Gáldar (Gran Canaria) has argued that the Canarian PP must explain «how it allowed that goal to be scored into the top corner», whilst showing «no sign of embarrassment» at being an «accomplice» in this pact with Vox.
Policy towards Morocco is to be realigned on an equal footing
Both Clavijo and Sosa have criticised the Spanish Government, led by the PSOE, for what they see as its «weak foreign policy» towards Morocco, the lack of explanation it has provided regarding the events in Ceuta, and its shift in stance regarding the self-determination of the Sahrawi people.
Both agree that Spain’s foreign policy towards Morocco must be «a relationship based on respect and equality» and that the country’s future government must adopt a «firm and resolute» stance on this issue.
The CC Alliance aims to win back the political centre
Teodoro Sosa has emphasised that the reunification of part of CC’s original project, achieved in the run-up to these general elections, in which some twenty nationalist political groups have once again joined forces for a territorial cause, namely the defence of the Canary Islands‘ rights within state institutions, «inspires hope» because it delivers «what the public has been calling for for 20 years».
The parliamentary candidate for Las Palmas has insisted that this nationalist reunification aims to «win over the centre» in a political context marked by «polarisation and scandal», whilst Clavijo has emphasised that this climate translates into «who you are going to vote against»-
«Lately, it seems to have become the norm that when you agree on something, it is seen as a concession, as a loss, and I believe that the most beautiful thing about politics is enabling different sensibilities and positions to reach an agreement in order to achieve a greater good,» he said at the end of the meeting.
