The Canary Islands International Music Festival has a long tradition and is a fixture in the Canary Islands‘ events calendar. The 41st edition of the music festival will once again feature world-renowned orchestras and top-class soloists.

Big events are on the horizon in the Canary Islands! Under the enticing slogan ‚Vibra el alma‘ (Vibrations of the Soul), the 41st Canary Islands International Music Festival promises to be an outstanding event. Here are our top picks:

FIMC: International Music Festival across 21 stages & eight islands

The creative diversity of music history will return to the islands in early 2025. A piece from 2006 will mark the opening of the 41st Canary Islands International Music Festival (FIMC) on 10 January.

Five weeks and 61 concerts later, on 16 February, the series will draw to a close with a score dating from 1903. This period spans more than a century, yet encompasses over a hundred works from the 18th century to the present day, more than a thousand musicians from all over the world, renowned soloists and conductors, subscription and special concerts, an ‚En Paralelo‘ festival… And all of this taking place across 21 venues on the eight islands, organised by the Government of the Canary Islands.

41st FIMC – outstanding orchestras and soloists

In January and February 2025, alongside the two host organisations – the Gran Canaria Philharmonic and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, major orchestras such as the London Philharmonia, Sinfonia Varsovia, the NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of Hanover, the Camerata Salzburg, the Munich Philharmonic and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande will be performing on the archipelago.

Musical icons such as the legendary pianist Grigory Sokolov and the Vienna Boys‘ Choir will also be taking part in the event, at which the violin will take centre stage with performers such as Pinchas Zukerman, Hilary Hahn, Midori, Leonidas Kavakos, María Dueñas and Lisa Batiashvilli.

41st FIMC – Concert highlights in January

The Philharmonia Orchestra London will be performing on 10 January at 8 pm at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, and on 11 January at 8 pm at the Auditorio de Tenerife. The programme features works by Montgomery, Korngold and Prokofiev.

The Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, conducted by Karel Mark Chichon, will perform a monumental work on 17 January at the Auditorio de Tenerife and on 18 January at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus: Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3.

The Sinfonía Varsovia, the Warsaw Symphony Orchestra, will present a prestigious concert featuring works by Penderecki, Mozart and Beethoven on 18 January at 8 pm at the Auditorio de Tenerife and on 19 January at 7 pm at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus. The renowned violinist Pinchas Zukerman will be appearing in a dual role as both conductor and violinist.

The Sinfónica de Tenerife, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Victor Pablo Pérez, will perform a magnificent work on 24 January at 8.00 pm at the Auditorio de Tenerife and on 26 January at 7.00 pm at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus: Gustav Mahler’s Sixth Symphony.

The NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Stanislav Kochanovsky, will be performing at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus on 28 January at 8.00 pm and at the Auditorio de Tenerife on 29 January at 8.00 pm. The programme features two magnificent works from the repertoire: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6.
