Lago Martiánez is capitalising on the closure of Playa Jardín. Whilst the most popular beach in northern Tenerife is closed, the huge open-air seawater swimming pool in Puerto de la Cruz is considered the ideal alternative. However, admission is now set to become more expensive.
Why the local authorities are not subsidising access to the large outdoor swimming pool in Puerto de la Cruz whilst the beach remains closed remains a mystery. After all, they have neglected to expand the sewage treatment plant for years. The beach is closed due to poor water quality – and is likely to remain so for some time yet.
This puts many tourists off. Others prefer Lago Martiánez as an alternative. Until now, the admission price had long been considered relatively reasonable. But that has now changed. The outdoor swimming pool is raising its prices:
Lago Martiánez on Tenerife is becoming more expensive
The swimming pool used to be owned by the local council. Consequently, tickets were subsidised. That came to an end in 2013, and so admission prices for Lago Martiánez were raised. For a long time, however – at least considering the facilities on offer – they remained reasonable at 5.50 euros.
However, since 20 January 2025, admission now costs seven euros for an adult. Children aged ten and over no longer pay 2.50, but four euros. And the hire charge for a parasol has risen from 2.50 to three euros.
After all, if you pay for 15 admissions at once, you save a full 25 euros on a price of 80. If you buy 30 tickets in one go, admission costs 133 instead of 210 euros.
Lago Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz appeals to adults and children alike
Lago Martiánez caters for both adults and children. Those taking their children to the outdoor pool will find plenty of space in the children’s pools of various sizes, complete with play facilities. For adults, on the other hand, there is the large pool, which – following several refurbishments – should now remain open for longer for the time being.
