Eleven Michelin stars is a record for Tenerife. After years of consistently outstanding performance on the Puerto de la Cruz restaurant scene, El Taller de Seve Díaz has secured this coveted accolade.

The small restaurant at 32 Calle San Felipe in the north of Tenerife was honoured on Wednesday with one of the most popular and prestigious culinary awards: its first Michelin star.

„We carry on learning, we carry on dreaming. Today, with yet another star of hope,“ says Seve Díaz. For him, it is „a star that spurs us on to keep giving our best.“ And with that, the chef disappeared back into the kitchen shortly after the news of the long-awaited award.

With this star, Díaz does not merely join the ranks of the Canary Islands‘ top chefs. El Taller is currently the only starred restaurant in the Canary Islands that is not cross-subsidised by a five-star hotel.

The largest of the Canary Islands now has two two-star restaurants and seven one-star restaurants:

The latest addition to Tenerife’s circle of Michelin-starred restaurants is renowned for its regional and fresh produce. Some of the ingredients are grown by the chef himself, who grew up in Punta Brava and is largely self-taught. Díaz and his wife recently purchased a finca near Garachico.

This small restaurant has been regarded as outstanding for years. Anyone wishing to dine there must book three months in advance. Guests can then look forward to a truly special culinary experience. As is typical of top-class gastronomy, the individual courses are small. Every bite is a delight, thanks to the superbly seasoned ingredients. The meal is accompanied by special wines from the Canary Islands.
