Johannes Bornewasser

Johannes Bornewasser is an author, journalist and editor-in-chief of Teneriffa News. He is regarded as a recognised expert on the Canary Islands.

Born in Düsseldorf in 1982, after studying media and cultural studies, he completed his newspaper traineeship at what was then the largest regional online news outlet. It was a conscious decision to pursue online journalism, to which he subsequently remained committed in various roles – most recently as Chief Operating Officer (COO) in the digital division. Bornewasser has also published various articles, including specialist literature on search engine optimisation in journalism. At the same time, driven by his family ties to the Canary Islands, he established Teneriffa News, the most widely read German-language online news magazine in the Canary Islands, which he now runs as his main occupation. Since 2019, he has also been working as a lecturer in online marketing at various universities.

Bornewasser travelled to Tenerife for the first time at the age of six months, thanks to his grandparents. Since then, he has spent increasingly more time in the Canary Islands. Founded in 2011 as a newspaper focusing solely on Tenerife, his portal has long since expanded to cover events across all the Canary Islands. Johannes Bornewasser initially covered all topics himself. The editorial team is now divided into specialist areas. He primarily covers politics, business and sport, as well as writing numerous travel guides and advice articles, whilst occasionally continuing to report on general current affairs.
