19,638 take-offs were recorded in the Canary Islands in August. We examined the flights to Germany listed in the timetable in order to assess punctuality. For the results to be meaningful, at least 20 flights had to have taken off during the month.
Seven airlines, operating 16 routes, made it into this comparison. These were the most punctual and least punctual Canary Islands flights this summer:
Discover Airlines, formerly Eurowings Discover, recorded the worst performance this time round. The airline recorded an average delay of 25 minutes and 29 seconds across 64 flights. The on-time departure rate stood at just 29.7 per cent. This figure measures the proportion of departures that took off with a delay of no more than 15 minutes. For Discover, this meant that fewer than one in three departures fell within this timeframe.
Canary Islands: How punctual were the flights from Germany?
Corendon Europe, on the other hand, saw the sharpest decline. The airline’s performance deteriorated most significantly compared with July: delays increased from 14 minutes and 52 seconds to 21 minutes and 52 seconds. The on-time rate slipped from 67.9 per cent to 60.3 per cent.
Bringing up the rear in the route rankings was Tenerife South to Düsseldorf (TFS-DUS): only 34.1 per cent of flights took off on time. On average, there was a delay of 29 minutes and 25 seconds across 44 flights. The sharpest decline was recorded on the Gran Canaria route to Cologne/Bonn (LPA-CGN): instead of 22:17 minutes, the delay now stood at 39:10 minutes, and the on-time rate for 31 flights fell from 54.8 per cent to 45.2 per cent.
This Canary Islands route showed the strongest recovery
Gran Canaria to Munich (LPA-MUC), on the other hand, made the most progress: the delay fell from 21:34 to 13:08 minutes and the punctuality rate climbed from 42.9 to 56.7 per cent. Nevertheless, first place went to a different route, namely Fuerteventura to Hanover (FUE-HAJ): a delay of 10 minutes and 12 seconds across 36 flights is considered a good result. In the previous month, the delay had been 16 minutes and 35 seconds. The on-time performance rate rose by 8.3 percentage points to 72.2 per cent.
Among the departure airports, Lanzarote performed best: it recorded a delay of 13:40 minutes and a punctuality rate of 62.2 per cent. In second place is Fuerteventura, with 16:45 minutes‘ delay and a punctuality rate of 60.4 per cent across 357 flights. For Tenerife South, the statistics show a delay of 21:31 minutes and a punctuality rate of just 50.9 per cent across 227 flights assessed; for Gran Canaria, the figures are 22:51 minutes and 51.6 per cent across 289 flights.
In July, Ryanair was still top of the table for average delay, whilst Discover already had the worst record of all the airlines assessed at that time, as shown by our analysis of flights within Germany in July. The route with the worst performance at the time was Gran Canaria to Frankfurt (LPA-FRA).

The figures are based on the actual departure times of individual flights. Only airlines and routes with a sufficient number of flights in the month under review were included in the analysis. Some operators have only a few dozen flights, so their monthly figures fluctuate more significantly than the overall analysis. This month, we have also analysed the following individually: airports, airlines and routes.
