The PP’s parliamentary candidate for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Gustavo González de Vega, stated on Friday that those who wish to «put an end to Sanchismo» can no longer rely on Coalición Canaria (CC) to pursue that objective.
González de Vega made these remarks after the party had registered its candidates in the province, when asked about CC’s refusal to support a possible PP-Vox coalition government.
«That vote cast for Coalición Canaria no longer guarantees that we will put an end to 'Sanchismo', which is, of course, our aim,» said the People’s Party’s lead candidate.
Tenerife: PP declares the ousting of Sánchez a clear election objective
The president of the PP in Tenerife, Lope Afonso, has also maintained that his party is firmly committed to «putting an end to Sánchez», referring to the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.
He has called on those who have shown «clear collusion» with him to explain their position and whether they are prepared «to keep him in power» if the numbers allow it.
He declined to comment on the reform of the euthanasia law announced by Alberto Núñez Feijóo: «I believe that the People’s Party has a very clear commitment, which is to oust Sánchez,» he replied.
«From there, the full set of proposals will be unveiled over the coming days and weeks,» he added.
«To get rid of Sánchez is to recognise that Sánchez is the problem,» Lope Afonso reiterated, emphasising that his party aims to usher in a new era in which «common sense» and «order» prevail.
The Canary Islands PP focuses on housing, immigration and REF
The candidate González de Vega has said that one of his objectives is to put an end to «eight years of ‚Sanchismo‘ and four years without a national budget».
He has identified housing, immigration and support for the self-employed as key policy areas, alongside the defence of the Canary Islands‘ Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF), which he has described as «a right, not a privilege».
He also stated that the Popular Party MPs from the Canary Islands are aware of the islands‘ unique characteristics and will work to ensure these are respected.
Senate candidate José Carlos Acha has stated that he will work for the Canary Islands, for Tenerife, for its identity and its needs.
